| Time now for a some background on the program as I think this will be of interest to you and explain why I am so keen to get it. I have attached an article from an early Broadsider magazine (below) which details the first days of speedway in the U.S. It says that the first attempt to launch the sport was in the summer of 1931 at the Breakfast Club. This seems to have been short lived and this article is the only original mention I have come across of racing there. That was followed by five meetings staged at the White Sox Park which apparently started in late Sept. As the program on its way to you is for the meeting on October 1 it is from one of the earliest recorded speedway meetings staged in the U.S. As you will see from the program when it arrives, it is such an early item that the meeting format which quickly became standard for US tracks wasn't in use. Weird to read that Cordy Milne was classed as an amateur! | |||

| Unique double header 1935 program for meetings at both Gilmore and Long Beach. The headliner for these meetings was a top flight UK rider Eric Langton making his first appearance in the USA. It is unusual in that heat details are shown separately for both meetings, rather than just a single one. Long Beach Moto Speedway was on Long Beach Blvd just south of Compton at Long Beach and Artesia Blvd's, 1/5 mi. dirt oval. | |||
